Cuisine with a Basque soul
Cooking is one of the Basque people’s great passions, so anyone who wants to try some of the most innovative and tasty dishes in Europe will find the Bidasoa more than ready to delight their taste buds.
Irun and Hondarribia are lucky in that they have both a large selection of the best restaurants, which are highly rated in food guides and also many different and more modest cider-houses where huge beef chops, cod, omelette and a unique atmosphere invite you to return and repeat the experience. Bars are also a good place to whet your appetite with succulent “pintxos” (nibbles) some of which are true culinary miniature works of art – all washed down with a large glass of “txakoli” (locally-produced young wine).
