Behobia San Sebastian

The Behobia-San Sebastián marathon is much more than a race. Every year, this popular mini-marathon is held on the second Sunday of November, although in reality it is more an emotional experience than a sporting event. An emotional experience which has gradually developed over the years as a result of the enthusiasm, feelings and effort poured into it by thousands of athletes like yourself, and the warm welcome and support provided by a region which understands and values sport and knows how to enjoy it to the full.

Behobia-San Sebastian

During the Behobia, you will feel emotions that you are unlikely to have felt in any other race. And you will feel them from the moment you catch one of the specially-provided athletes’ trains first thing in the morning, to the moment you reach the finishing line on San Sebastián’s Boulevard between two solid walls of spectators and supporters whose warmth and enthusiasm are impossible to imagine.

By this time, you will have left behind the wonderful atmosphere of the starting line in the small district of Irun known as Behobia, as narrow as it is dynamic and animated. You will have left behind the long minutes of the warm-up session and the camaraderie between fellow athletes. You will have enjoyed a series of services which make life that little bit easier and pleasanter. You will have witnessed the moving start of the wheelchair racers and seen the streets of Irun bursting with people. You will have climbed to Alto de Gaintxurizketa, which you may remember from one of the Pyrenean stages of the Tour de France, and passed the Lezo waterfalls (amidst green fields) and Pasajes Port, no longer the dessert it was before. And, after all this, you will have experienced the warmth of the old port district of Trintxerpe, from where the cheers and words of encouragement will have accompanied you right up to the finish. A human corridor which is guaranteed to move you, especially when you reach the top of Alto de Miracruz and begin the final descent to the Gros neighbourhood, the Zurriola promenade and the finishing line, where a vibrant, spectacular welcome awaits you right in the heart of Gipuzkoa’s capital. In short, an experience you will never forget.

Come and discover why the Behobia is a marathon that attracts people back, time and time again. Come and see why every year there are more runners, and you will understand why our efforts increase autumn after autumn.
