The “Donibane”, as it is colloquially known, is a race with 20 years of existence, between the cities of Saint Jean de Luz (Donibane Lohitzune in basque) and Hondarribia. It’s a popular half marathon along a circuit.
The race starts at 10 a.m. in the city of corsairs, passing by the Louis XVI Square, Saint Jean de Luz fishing port, Maurice Ravel quay and the fortified tower of Sokoa. The race continues along La Corniche (scenic coastal road), passing by the Chateau d’Abbadia (castle). After entering the walled city and climbing the calle Mayor, the participants arrive at the beautiful and colourful Barrio de la Marina (fishermen’s district), with its streets full of atmosphere and alive with people.
