Shopping in Irun

Commercial spaces

Four shopping centres offer a broad range of commerce, catering, restaurants and leisure, where you can find what you need whether you spend the least possible time shopping or like to spend the whole day checking out what’s on sale in the diverse establishments.

Mendibil Shopping Centre

This modern shopping centre has about 24,000 square metres of space with shops specialising in fashion, sports, accessories and leisure as well as restaurants. The covered parking garage on the lower levels has 300 spaces. The same building houses the central provisions market Mercairun. It is easy to access from main roads connecting to neighbouring areas and is less than 500 metres from the Gipuzkoa fairground FICOBA

Txingudi Shopping Centre

This shopping centre is located on the city’s outskirts and easily accessed from the A8 motorway and from the GI-636 (old N-1 road). It counts 40,000 square metres of built space: 11,000 dedicated to food via an Alcampo hypermarket and the remaining 29,000 housing shops specialising in fashion, sports, auto-parts, furniture, footwear, toys and leisure, as well as restaurants. There also 2,500 free parking spaces and a service station where you can fill your car’s tank.

Behobia Shopping Area

Behobia is an appealing shopping area for tourists, with about 100 shops and easy access from the A-63 and A-8 motorways if you’re coming from France or Gipuzkoa, and from the N-121 national road if you’re coming from Navarre. It offers a broad range of wines, liquors, tobacco and perfume at affordable prices, as well as souvenirs, clothing and accessories and everyday products such as fresh food. You can also enjoy a drink at one of the bars or try the excellent traditional cooking in one of its restaurants.

Santiago Shopping Area

Visit the Santiago Shopping Centre and take something from Irun back home with you. You’ll find all kinds of souvenirs to remind you of your time spent in the city. Its location on the French border makes the complex quite unique and allows you to shop accompanied by the Bidasoa River landscape.

Shopping areas

The city’s most complete commercial offering is found in the central business district. Its ‘backbone’ is the Paseo de Colón, along which visitors and residents walk and window-shop before the major franchises, modern outlets and other shops that have been there seemingly forever. The area is complemented by shops on the busy Luis Mariano and along República Argentina, where the Mendibil Shopping Centre with its many stores is located, along with the MercaIrun municipal provisions market.

Footwear, fashion and accessories, jewellery, home textiles, toys, gifts, books, decoration, perfume, pastries and delicatessen – a wide variety appealing to the whole family, in the city centre.

Avenida de Gipuzkoa and the streets Juan Arana and Serapio Múgica next to Plaza Pío XII concentrate most establishments in this shopping area, which connects to the central shopping area via the Colón covered shopping gallery and also via Avenida Gipuzkoa and Luis Mariano.

This is a central area with shops for everyday purchases as well as a broad range of establishments offering clothing, footwear and accessories for all ages. The parking garage under Plaza Pío XII makes it easier for you to shop here.

San Miguel is a busy neighbourhood with shops offering products of all kinds. Fresh and varied food shops are situated around Uranzu Market; others nearby sell furniture, apparel and sports-related products.

We recommend window-shopping along Calle Hondarribia and then a stop to enjoy something to eat or drink either there or at a nearby terrace.

Markets

Irun has adjusted to the passage of time without losing the essence of its traditional commerce. Its ample spaces specialise in quality products and personal attention. You’ll feel at home, whether at the two daily provisions markets or the weekly market in the historic district.

MercaIrun offers a taste of the surroundings, land and sea, in-season greens and fresh fish. If you’re seeking colour and flavour, don’t miss the top quality local products sold in the municipal provisions market.

Above a 300-space underground parking garage on floor -1 of the Mendibil Shopping Centre, with pedestrian access also from Avenida Iparralde, we find more than 30 stands selling a wide variety of fresh products. The market’s opening times are:

MONDAY to FRIDAY: From 8:30 to 13:30 and from 16:30 to 20:00
SATURDAY: From 8.30 to 14:00

Uranzu Market in the San Miguel district is a provisions market with more than 20 stands specialising in fresh and dry food, where you can find top quality goods and enjoy a pleasant environment marked by personalised service. Its opening times are:

MONDAY to FRIDAY: From 8:00 to 13:30 and from 17:00 to 20:00
SATURDAY: From 8:00 to 13:30

This market is held every Saturday morning on Plaza de Urdanibia. More than 150 posts offer from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. food, clothing, footwear, leather products and other items. This is also an excellent place to find seasonal products brought in from nearby farms and gardens, making this market a key meeting point for Irunese and visitors.
