Day of the Virgin of Guadalupe (8)

The city’s main celebration is the Alarde (Parade) on September the 8th . The origin of this colourful parade was a vow made to the Virgin of Guadalupe, the patron saint, for her intercession during the resistance and subsequent victory over the French army in 1638. This vow is repeated every year, in a folkloric performance that commemorates the ancient militias of the province.
