Holy Week – Procession of Silence

On Good Friday, at 5 p.m., the liturgical events take place in the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción y del Manzano, including the representation of The Descent.

Around 6 p.m., departing from the same church, slowly and quietly, the procession walks through the streets of the old town, carrying the seven “pasos” made of wooden sculptures dating from the 14th to the 17th centuries. It’s the famous Procession of Silence.

Among the 227 people who take part in this procession, there are always the 12 apostles, played by fishermen and farmers from Hondarribia, as well as several penitent brothers and the Roman centurions.
