Practical information for pilgrims

In order to make walking the Way of St James an unforgettable experience, it is important to be well informed. Below you will find some advise regarding how to plan your trip, as well as a number of practical recommendations.

Signposting

The Camino de Santiago or the St James’s Way is well signposted, and pilgrims need only let themselves be carried along and enjoy everything they discover along the way. The signposts themselves may differ, but the way is always clear.

  • In built up areas, the signposts consist of a scallop shell and ceramic plaques.
  • On the paths themselves, yellow arrows commonly point the way.

How to get your pass

Passes can be obtained from the Amigos de los Caminos de Santiago Association in Irun (C/Fueros, 2. Tel. 943 62 41 85 / 688 601 539) or the Gipuzkoa Caminos de Santiago Association (Urbieta, 2, sótano. Donostia-San Sebastián. Tel. 943 42 72 81). They are also available at the San Gabriel y Santa Gema Parish Church (Passionist Fathers) located at c/Estación 24, right next to the Irun train and bus station (opening hours: 8.30 – 12.30).
