Oiasso Archaeological Film Festival

Oiasso Archaeological Film FestivalThe 9th Bidasoa Archaeological Film Festival was held in 2009, offering a broad-ranging and extremely varied programme featuring films of differing lengths focusing on different periods and themes, but all with one thing in common: their ability to transport us back in time.

The four sessions, which took place in the afternoon in the large theatre of the Amaia centre, together featured 22 different works, all of which were competing for the Jury's Grand Prix, the Arkeolan Prize for Scientific Dissemination and, of course, the Public's Prize, which is elected every year by the spectators themselves.

Every year FICAB takes its audiences on a fascinating voyage through space and time. Starting with the Neanderthals and tracing our roots right up to the modern era, the journey is an opportunity to meet Egyptians, Babylonians, Phoenicians, Etruscans, Iberians, Thracians, Romans and Moches, all eager to share the most fascinating aspects of their culture with their visitors from the future.

In 2009, the last session had a special surprise in store for the audience. Following the prize-giving ceremony, which took place in Oiasso Museum, the Amaia Cultural Centre offered a screening of Agora, the latest film by Alejandro Amenábar. This film, which was screened outside the framework of the competition itself, is set in the agitated atmosphere of late 4th century Alexandria.

The 2009 festival also included a workshop-seminar entitled “Audiovisual Communication in Historical and Archaeological Museums”. This parallel event was targeted at professionals working in the museum and audiovisual production fields, and aimed to instigate and foster debates and discussions regarding the use of new technologies and audiovisual resources in museum exhibitions.

FICAB has something for everyone. As we like to say: go out and come to the cinema, archaeology awaits you.
