Menchu Gal Exhibition Hall

The Menchu Gal gallery opened in January 2010 in homage to this much-loved painter, born in Irun. Initially, the idea was to create a space dedicated to works of authors from the Bidasoa area. Its programme is based on temporary exhibitions and since its opening, it has gone through different exhibition stages. Originally, the gallery hosted the work of Menchu Gal and later it housed the work of artists from the Gaur group (Jorge Oteiza, Eduardo Chillida, Néstor Basterretxea…) and local artists.

In addition, more recent artistic expressions have been showcased lately, with a special interest in making women artists visible. The exhibitions of María Cueto, Rosa Valverde, María José Recalde and Carmen Maura, among others, are proof of that.

This line of work, together with a focus on the artistic practices in the Bidasoa area and the review of works by confirmed artists, are the stepping-stones of the gallery’s programme.
